Participant information Sheet (digital copy available here)

This is an invitation for you to take part in a research study. Please read this sheet as it will provide important information about the study. You are welcome to ask questions by emailing the researcher (j.z.paxton@ed.ac.uk)

You may withdraw consent and discontinue your participation in the study at any time. Due to the anonymous nature of the data collection, your data will be stored and included in analysis.  

The purpose of the study

The aim of this research is to seek opinions from both students and staff about a new digital anatomy resource named The Edinburgh ATLAS project. The ATLAS (Anatomy Teaching Lab Additive manufacturing and Scanning) project is investigating the use of 3D structured light scanning technologies for the creation of digital anatomy resources based on real human material.  

Your role in the study

You have been invited to take part in the study because you are involved in anatomy education either as a student or as an educator. By taking our survey you are giving your consent for your responses to be evaluated as part of the study and for your data to be stored in accordance with University of Edinburgh policies.

Do I have to take part in the study?

No, it is up to you to decide whether or not you wish to take part. If you do decide to take part you can keep this information sheet to remind you of the purpose and scope of the study.

What will happen to me if I take part?

You will be asked to share your opinions on several different digital anatomy models. These models will be presented to you via a secure online portal and you will be invited to answer questions about the models via a digital survey.

What are the benefits of taking part?

Your opinions and ideas will help to shape the development of this novel anatomy teaching tool. These results will be used to improve existing resources and facilitate implementation into the curriculum.

What are the possible risks of taking part?

This study does not expose you to any known potential risks or discomfort although you should be aware that you will be viewing human remains (in this case, bones). As you are already involved in anatomy teaching or study this is something you will have encountered already but if you have any concerns about any part of the study then please contact the researcher.

What happens when the research study stops?

There are no direct implications for you; if the research has raised areas which you wish to discuss further you should contact the researcher. 

Will my taking part in this study be confidential?

All data collected will be done so anonymously with no identifiable features collected.

What will happen to the results of the research study?

The results of this study will be analysed and submitted for a student research project , for publication and/or conference proceedings related to anatomy education and technologies.
